Important Updates:
- IRS Issues Publication
15-T New Withholding Tables for 2001 (for Wages Paid After June 30,
2001) The IRS has issued new wage-bracket and percentage method withholding
tables that are effective for wages paid from July 1 through the end
of 2001. New Withholding Tables for 2001 (for Wages Paid After June
30, 2001) - Pub. 15-T - is available for download on the APA web site
at: http://www.americanpayroll.org/new110.html
- The percentage method
tables are included on pages 3-4 of Pub. 15-T. Note that the withholding
allowance values for 2001 and the advance earned income credit payment tables
for 2001 are unchanged.
- Pub. 15-T includes
a "Notice to Employees" (see p. 63) about the changes in income tax
withholding and a reminder that if they do not want their withholding
reduced, they can file a new Form W-4, Employee's Withholding Allowance
Certificate (the 2001 W-4 remains unchanged). Information about the
advance payment checks and their distribution schedule is included on
the web page. Additional information about the tax bill is available

- Note: Pub. 15-T has
been updated by the IRS. If you downloaded the file before June 12, check
to see that you have the corrected file. The correction is on page 4, Table
7(b). The corrected amount is $21,448.50.
Tax Cut Law to Have Major
Impact on Payroll -
- The Economic
Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 - This new law contains
the largest tax rate reductions in 20 years and will have an immediate
impact on payroll operations, with reduced tax rates going into effect
on July 1, 2001 and revised withholding tables on the way from the IRS.
